Something Blue

I absolutely love wearing our traditional Somali dress! The last time I wore one was at my friend's wedding last year, so I jumped at the chance of wearing one to a small party thrown by some students in my town.

I've actually owned this dress for a year now. It was gifted to me by my aunt in Australia, and I fell in love with the color instantly! I don't wear many colors on a daily basis, but these Somali dira's are so colorful and are usually made of silk that I cannot resist them.

A special shoutout goes to Chloe who sewed the different parts of the dress for me!

You look lovely! I love the accessories. I think I might do a DIY for this dress - I'm quite proud that I, a white girl, sewed YOUR traditional clothing! Haha

Thanks for the beautiful comments ladies! :)

Shahi, I know of one shop that sells these in Dubai, it's in the souk. Just ask any Somali you see where the Somali shop is and they'll direct you. They're a bit pricey though. Otherwise, there's one in Abu-dhabi in Madinat Zayed.
